This round table aims to highlight which global phenomena are impacting or will impact vulnerable communities. The contributions will help to understand the risks and the opportunities that must be considered for design in vulnerable communities. The presentations can be focused on the global phenomena or on the community scale.

Esta mesa redonda busca resaltar cuáles fenómenos globales están impactando o impactarán las comunidades vulnerables. Las contribuciones ayudarán a entender los riesgos y oportunidades que deben de considerarse para diseñar dentro de comunidades vulnerables. Las presentaciones pueden estar enfocadas en los fenómenos globales o a escala de la comunidad.

With a master’s degree in housing and urbanism and a Ph.D. in urbanism and territory ordering, she inclined towards the creation of territorial strategies. Her main areas of interest are design and management strategies that lead to harmonious relationships between human activities, as well as the processes of nature to keep its balance and the urban scale project that requires integral design solutions for connectivity, functionality, and quality public spaces. De la Torre Escoto enjoys constantly searching for solutions, aside from being in touch with people, their ecosystems and urban areas, in order to transform them into quality environments. Regarding challenges, she considers that being able to share her passion for the city to his students and helping them find their own path and problem-solving methods are some of the main ones. Another one would be to achieve that decision-makers implement innovative projects that solve urban problems and produce scientific knowledge after each experience.

Con maestría en vivienda y urbanismo, y doctorado en urbanismo y ordenamiento del territorio, se inclinó por la elaboración de estrategias territoriales. Sus principales áreas de interés son las estrategias de diseño y gestión que lleven a una relación armónica entre las actividades humanas, así como los procesos de la naturaleza para mantener su equilibrio y el proyecto de escala urbana que requiera propuestas integrales de diseño para la conectividad, la funcionalidad y el espacio público de calidad. De la Torre Escoto disfruta mantenerse en una búsqueda constante de soluciones, además de tener contacto con las personas, sus ecosistemas y áreas urbanas, con el objetivo de transformarlos en entornos de calidad. En cuanto a retos, considera que transmitir la pasión por la ciudad a los alumnos y lograr que encuentren su camino y métodos para resolver problemas es uno de los principales en su profesión. Otros de los desafíos que enfrenta son el lograr que los tomadores de decisiones implementen proyectos innovadores en la solución de problemas urbanos y producir conocimiento científico a partir de cada experiencia en la que participa.

Professor-Researcher at the Dr. José María Luis Mora Research Institute (CONACYT) in Mexico City. He is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in England in International Relations (MSc) and a PhD in Analysis and Governance of Sustainable Development from the International University of Venice, Italy (PhD). He is an associate researcher of the UNAM's Climate Change Research Program (PINCC), of various Mexican international programs.
​
He has collaborated with various programs of the United Nations (UNEP, UNODC, UNIDO, CEPAL), of the European Union (Europe Aid) in the Balkans, Central America and Mexico. He is currently one of the scientists of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the highest global scientific body on climate matters that won the Nobel Prize in 2007 and is in charge of the drafting of the next AR6 report (Assessment Report 6) for 2021.

Es investigador asociado del Programa de Investigación en cambio climático (PINCC) de la UNAM, de varios programas mexicanos de internacionales.
Ha colaborado con varios programas de las ​Naciones Unidas (PNUMA, UNODC, ONUDI, CEPAL), de la Unión Europea (Europe Aid) en los Balcanes, Centroamérica y México. Es actualmente uno de los científicos del Panel Intergubernamental de Cambio Climático de la ONU (IPCC), máximo órgano científico global en materia de clima que ganó el premio Nobel en 2007 y es encargado de la redacción del próximo informe AR6 (Assessment Report 6) para 2021.

He is the author of a thesis on the social and spatial transformations of shikumen lilong, Shanghai ancient urban entities. He studied architecture in France, Ireland and China. After working in Shanghai in architecture and urban planning offices, he taught at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji. His current research focuses on the questions of urban metabolism and de-construction processes in China.

Es autor de una tesis sobre las transformaciones sociales y espaciales de shikumen lilong, antiguas entidades urbanas de Shanghai. Estudió arquitectura en Francia, Irlanda y China. Después de trabajar en Shanghai en oficinas de arquitectura y planificación urbana, enseñó en la Facultad de Arquitectura y Planificación Urbana de Tongji. Graduate in International Relations (TEC - CCM), Master in Sustainable Development Sciences (TEC - CEM) and Master in Planning and Land Management (Polytechnic University of Madrid). Specialist in environmental regulations (ITAM), Urban development and sustainable construction (IBERO) and innovation for sustainability. Currently, she is Deputy Director of the “SDG Initiative at TEC”, a platform that seeks to position Tec as a national and international leader in the development of innovative solutions for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Since 2011, she has taught classes at the university, mainly on topic related with Sustainable Development Goals.
She has worked as coordinator of urban development projects, mainly on urban impact and environmental impact issues. Additionally, she is part of the social enterprise, Natoure, which seeks to contribute to the development of communities through Sustainable Tourism.

Desde 2011, ha impartido clases en la universidad, principalmente sobre temas relacionados con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. Ha trabajado como coordinadora de proyectos de desarrollo urbano, principalmente en temas de impacto urbano e impacto ambiental. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy. His main research interests are focused on efficient information extraction from multimodal remote sensing for sustainable development.
He is an ambassador for IEEE Region 8 Humanitarian activities, and a research contact point for the Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium (NORA – www.nora.ai). He serves as a Topical Associate Editor for machine learning for IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing.

Professor of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ferrara, which he founded in 1992. He was rector of the University Institute of Architecture of Venice, IUAV. The president of the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design (ILAUD). Director of the Center for Urban, Territorial and Environmental Research (CRUTA) and coordinator of the Doctorate in Regional Economics at the University of Ferrara. He has extensive international teaching experience such as at Waseda University in Tokyo, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), at the universities of California, Berkeley and Santa Cruz and at numerous European universities.
He has conducted research at the Center for European Studies (CES) and the Center for Urban Studies at Harvard University and MIT. He has directed numerous works on the industrial and urban development of central and northern Italy. He is the author of numerous books and essays that have been translated into various languages, as well as having directed and being a member of the scientific committee of numerous Italian and international urban planning journals such as The New Atlantis, Archivio di Studi Urbani e Regionali or Cittàdasse.
